Holy Ground
Holy Ground is dedicated to physically and spiritually feeding Houston's hungry,
and hosts a total of more than 200 guests each week at its evening events for those who are
homeless, or nearing homelessness. To fulfill Christ's Great Commission (Mark 16:15,
Matt. 28:19-20, and John 21:15-17), these programs provide meals, fellowship, Biblical
teaching, life-skills training and character building – Holy Ground is where discipleship
begins.
Our Thursday night service at 5100 Travis hosts about 100
people weekly and consists of a time of worship followed by a spiritually-motivated message.
Afterwards, volunteers provide and serve a meal, and share the love of Jesus through mentoring
and encouragement. The evening's program provides us the opportunity to introduce and invite
guests to Main Street’s other ministries, as well as to Holy Ground’s support-group meetings
on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights. These small groups offer discipleship, accountability,
and networking – helping people get off the streets and into transitional or permanent housing,
where they can become employable and productive.
Our current small groups meetings (which do change from time to time) are listed on
the "Small Groups" page (see link in the left margin). As we witness the Holy Spirit's work
in these lives, we remain open to creating new outreaches when we see needs arise and the Lord
leads. For specific situations, to refer someone, or to get involved, check with us to find
out what's "in the works"!
