The Shepherd’s Center seeks to provide support, guidance, referrals, and
the love of Jesus to individuals in our community desiring to change
their lives for good. In this video, George Jordan tells you how he started
volunteering, and what it has meant to him.
Whether our clients are facing homelessness,
unemployment, or some other crisis situation, the volunteers of the
Shepherd’s Center meet with them to compassionately listen and to
assist them by coordinating the resources of over 1,500 social
service and benevolence agencies in the Houston area. Shepherd’s
Center volunteers also walk alongside and disciple those individuals
who choose to develop a relationship with Jesus Christ.
In 2003, the Shepherd’s Center was created to offer referral
information, along with limited financial aid, to those who find
themselves in crisis and/or who seek to change their lives for
good. In the past two years, the number of clients we serve has
more than doubled, and the total assisted through 2009 was over 1,200.
We are currently on track to serve approximately 1,700 families and
individuals in 2010, and with the current economy we expect to see this
number continue to rise. The limited financial assistance we offer is
graciously provided through your individual donations, allocations,
designated Communion offerings, and other special gifts. We always
have room for volunteers, and are open Monday and Wednesday mornings at
5100 Travis. Please
contact Bill White at (281) 833-3503 or
with any questions, or to get involved.
