What to Bring
At check-in, we want you to provide your Texas ID or Driver's License and your
Social Security card. If you don't have proper ID, you will still be considered
for assistance; however, we will likely refer you to Operation ID to obtain
proper documentation.
Rent Assistance - please bring your lease and any late or eviction notices
you have received. The name(s) on the lease should match the ID that you present
when you come. Documentation of income, such as award letters from Social Security
or Veteran's Administration, child support, or paycheck stubs are also helpful;
award letters for food stamps are good to verify food assistance you may be receiving.
If you receive Houston Housing Authority assistance, it is important to provide us
a copy of that award letter as well.
Utility Assistance - please bring your latest bill with you, as well as any
late or cut-off notices you have received. The name on the account ideally should
match the ID that you present when you come. Award letters and documentation of
assistance or income you receive is also recommended (see above).
Other Types of Assistance - In general, we do not issue checks or pay
assistance without documentation of some kind. For any assistance you request, you
should bring something in writing that displays a letterhead (logo, name, and address)
of the company or organization you wish to receive the money, along with a contact
name and phone number(s). Other contact information (such as fax numbers and/or
e-mail addresses) are also useful.
Assistance We Do Not Provide - As a general rule, we do not provide mortgage
assistance because we have found it quite difficult to confirm that your mortgage
company will accept moneies from a church, as well as to confirm that our check has
been credited to the correct account. We do, however, have some resources for those
who seek mortgage assistance. We also generally do not assist with bail bond payments.
Various other requests are considered on a case-by-case basis.
We are only open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 to Noon. Since we are a
mostly-volunteer organization, we ask you to please be timely in your arrival.
Our "guaranteed" walk-in slots are usually filled as soon as we open the doors at
8:30 a.m.; late arrivals will be asked to come back on another day. Appointments
booked for our 11:30 slots should not arrive later than 11:45. Also bear in mind that,
if we are short on volunteers to interview clients, you may have to wait to be seen.
We thank you in advance for your patience.
